Spring is taking its time this year, or maybe we are just anticipating it more since we are all safe in our homes doing our part to combat the pandemic. Either way, before we know it, we’ll be enjoying the consistent sun, warm, weather, and that impossible to ignore urge to work in the yard. While many of us have been passing the time sorting through and organizing our living spaces, it’s time to consider what can go into storage. No one wants a home crowded with reminders of cold weather. That’s why we’ve put together some quick tips for storing winter items. Though we have limited our hours and opted for contact-free signups for new leases, U-Lock-It Self Storage Belleville is here to help you with your spring storage. Please call or reserve a unit online. Swap Your Sweaters for Shorts Can you believe there was a time, maybe late September, that we were excited to break out our autumn and winter sweaters? Who even was that person? With those days long behind us, we are thrilled to put away the sweaters and boots and break out the swimsuits. When storing clothes in your Ypsilanti self-storage unit, we suggest taking the time to do it right so your clothes look ready to wear come next fall. Plastic bins are best unless you have coats that shouldn’t be folded. In that case, we recommend a wardrobe box, which you can find among the moving supplies at your local hardware store. Take the time to fold your clothes neatly, so they don’t lose their shape or get too wrinkled. If you are storing boots or other shoes, stuff them with paper (just like when you first took them out of the shoe box from the store). The article will make sure they retain their shape and don’t get crushed by other items in your unit. Storing Snow Blowers Just as you swap your sweaters for shorts, you’ll be swapping your snowblowers for lawnmowers. Before storing away your snowblowers, consider wiping down any corrosive salt that might remain on the sides (warm water and a cloth are all you need). Also, spray any exposed metal areas with rust preventative. For extra protection, invest in a snowblower cover that will mitigate any moisture build-up. Holiday Decorations While it’s uncertain what the Fourth of July and other summer celebrations will look like this year, we can be optimistic and look forward to the winter holidays. Consider clear plastic baggies for smaller holiday decorations, so they’re easier to sort and identify when you need them again. Also, save yourself a headache by wrapping lights around cardboard to prevent tangling. We hope these tips help with storing your winter items in one of our secure and convenient Belleville self-storage units. Please stay safe, folks!
