Here at U-Lock-It Self Storage Belleville, your safety and security are our priority. To help make sure your self-storage experience is a good one, we have certain restrictions and suggestions on what you can and cannot put in your units. Below are a couple of items you shouldn't put in self-storage.
Food or Scented Items
Storing food in your storage unit can cause trouble for more than just yourself. Food draws the attention of critters such as mice, which can affect the whole facility. Drawing these unwanted creatures can cause damage to not only your food, but other stored items (as well as the items of other tenants). Scented items that aren’t edible can still attract critters, so we advise against storing such items in your unit. Please do us ALL a favor and don’t store food in your unit.
Before storing a questionable item, please ask yourself “could this cause harm to anyone?” If yes, then please don’t store it in your unit. Hazardous material covers a wide range of items from propane tanks to fireworks to pesticides and paint. If it can catch fire, cause fumes, explode, etc., then you shouldn’t put it in storage. This is for the safety of everyone involved, which is why we take it so seriously.
Animals and Plants
Please do not store anything that’s alive in your unit. Regarding pets, it’s against the law and cruel to put them in storage and should never be considered. As for plants, they most likely won’t live long without access to sunlight and water, so you’d be smart to not keep them in your unit.
Valuable and Sentimental Items
While we offer 24-hour surveillance and random security checks at our Belleville self-storage facility, we advise against storing something you can’t afford to lose. This includes jewelry, coins, art, or sentimental items such as photo albums. Here at U-Lock-It, we do offer insurance with your unit, but some things aren’t replaceable and not worth the risk.
Keep in mind that these are but a few suggestions, and we’d be happy to talk with you about items about which you are uncertain. We want to make sure your experience at U-Lock-It Self Storage Belleville is a happy one, and that starts with storing the right items.

As magenta, yellow, and orange leaves start to appear on trees, you know it’s time to start thinking about your storage plans for the winter. Self-storage in the fall is the perfect way to declutter, protect lawn care items, and make room for coats, sleds, snowblowers, etc. (our Belleville self-storage facility is here to help). We suggest pouring yourself a hot cup of apple cider and getting out a pen and paper. Next, make a list of everything you won’t be using in the colder months. Shorts? Only the hopelessly optimistic need those in their drawers after November. Lawnmower? Once you do your final cut of the season, your mower only takes up room in the garage. Lawn furniture? We doubt your neighbors will want to sit outside for a cookout this December.
Take a look at your list. Odds are, it’s more items than you expected. Imagine the space you’ll have if all of these things are put safely in self-storage. U-Lock-It Self Storage Belleville can make that happen. At our Belleville self-storage facility, we offer four convenient covered unit sizes and paved outdoor spaces for your boat, RV, or trailer.
